The City of Prescott in Yavapai County is considered part of North Central Arizona and is located just south of the Granite Dells. At one-time, Prescott was actually the capital of the Arizona Territory, until Phoenix became the final capital of Arizona in 1889. Prescott has numerous Victorian style homes and over 500 buildings on the National Register of Historic Places.

Locals call this the "Tri-City" area. The three cities/towns are, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley and Prescott. The combined population of the Tri-City area in 2008 is estimated to be about 125,000. Prescott is the hub of the Prescott Metro Area and is the 3rd largest metropolitan area in Arizona.

Education is one of the areas largest employers. Prescott is the main site of Yavapai College's campuses. You will also find, Prescott College, an independent, liberal arts college offering bachelor's & master's degrees, as well as teacher certification. The college is commited to environment and social justice. The western campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (aviation and aerospace) is also located here.

The weather conditions are favorable owing to the altitude of 5354 ft, being significantly cooler than the lower southern areas (Phoenix) of the state and yet without the harsher winters found at higher altitudes (Flagstaff). The awesome weather here is great for outdoor activities such as hiking, golfing, camping and intramural sports.

Our city is home to the historical area referred to as "Whiskey Row", which was formerly a notorious red-light district. In 1900, one of many fires destroyed most of the original buildings on Whiskey Row.

So many attractions that we can not list them all. The city of Prescott is home to annual events such as the Bluegrass Festival, Frontier Days, Earth Day, a Cinco de Mayo celebration, Tsunami on the Square, numerous art festivals, the Shakespeare Festival, Folk Arts Fair, Prescott Film Fest, a Christmas Parade, the Acker Music Festival, The Cowboy Poets Gathering, the Prescott Highland Games & several marathons.
